For most of
us, daily life involves waking up in the morning, rushing through breakfast, a
ride to work in traffic, work, more work, a ride home, some dinner and more
rest to do it all again the next day. Cloud Nine Wilpattu has been a location
where with each visit, with growing familiarity, manages to make a guest feel
as though their minds get a much needed break, a breath of fresh air, and a
feeling of renewed sense of wonder at the world around them.
A day at
Cloud Nine for me is falling asleep to the quiet sounds of nature, and waking
up to the sight of the early morning sun breaking over the horizon with the
soundtrack of bird calls at the viewpoint, it is the quiet calm of reading a
book on the swing or in the privacy of my balcony after a hearty breakfast, and
a lazy bike ride around the village and to the lagoon.
The lagoon
in itself is a truly understated treasure trove. From the serenity of the
sparkling lagoon water with nothing but the sound of the wind whipping around
you, the warmth of the fishermen ready to share their unending knowledge of the
fish and hidden islands, to the most glorious sunset on the lagoon with the
bats migrating to mainland overhead each night, it is a treat that should not
be missed.
A treat to
the eyes and ears it is, but what makes it a homerun is how it cares for the
tastebuds and your sense of smell. Cloud Nine is the smell of freshly brewed
Ceylon tea served at the lounge area by the smiling waitstaff, the hot and
colorful lunch at the restaurant with fragrances of some of the best local rice
and curry you will find, and the smell of grilled seafood wafting from the
barbecue in the evening as you walk in for dinner. Each meal has you coming
back for more.
From rest,
to adventure, peace, to discovery each guest will find something that makes
this stay truly significant. It is the ideal place to break away from the
monotony of daily life and discover a sense of deep connection with the nature
and culture around us. Here you are truly at Cloud Nine.
